Earth Balance has long been king of the hill when it comes to vegan butters, but consumers have new choices; three additional plant-based options have recently made it to store shelves.

Legendary cheesemaker Miyoko’s Creamery just debuted a cultured, European-style vegan butter. Made with organic coconut oil and organic cashews, it’s the only plant-based butter on the market that’s free from palm oil.

The cultured butter is available in six Whole Foods Market regions across the country and in lots of natural food stores and co-ops — plus online at MiyokosKitchen.com. It retails for $7.99.

Miyoko’s isn’t the only company getting in on the vegan butter game. Melt Organic launched its first buttery spread a few years ago, and the company just released buttery sticks (perfect for baking) and a probiotic buttery spread complete with active cultures.

Melt’s butter is made with virgin coconut, palm fruit (Rainforest Alliance Certified, certified Eco-Social and Fair Trade by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil), hi-oleic sunflower, non-GMO flax and canola oils. It’s available at stores nationwide including Whole Foods, Vons, Big Y, Winn Dixie and more, and sells for $4.49 to $4.99.

As awesome as Earth Balance is, it’s always nice to have options.
