Starbucks Rolling Out Vegan Cupcake at Select Locations

Hallelujah: Starbucks is about to add a vegan sweet to its baked goods case. In select stores across South Florida, the mega-chain will be offering passion fruit cupcakes made by Miami-based bakery Bunnie Cakes.

The treats are 100% vegan and gluten-free.

Bunnie Cakes owner Mariana Cortez is thrilled about the development. “I have to pinch myself to believe it, I am extremely happy and proud of this accomplishment, we were chosen to be the only local partner among many other regular bakeries and desserts,” she tells Latest Vegan News. “This proves to me that we are changing the way we see things, the way we eat. Years ago I couldn’t find a vegan cake for my son in Miami, today we are partnering with one the biggest business in the U.S., a dream come true.”

Cortez also owns Bunnie Cakes Studio, the first-ever all-vegan cupcake and cake decorating studio, just adjacent to her original, newly expanded store in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. She got her start on Cupcake Wars, where celebrity pastry chef and judge Florian Bellanger called her creations, “the best and most elegant cupcakes we have seen on the show.” Bunnie Cakes has also previously been named Miami’s Best Cupcake.

A Starbucks rep said in a statement that the company is “ecstatic” and the cupcakes are “amazing.”

The passion fruit cupcake will be initially available at the following Starbucks stores as of October 16th, though they’re likely to roll out to more in the future:

  • NW 27th Avenue and NW 191th St
  • 11715-52 Curtiss Pkwy
  • 13940-5711 NW 7th St

“A vegan cupcake at the nation’s largest coffee chain is a latte smile about for all consumers looking for a delicious treat that’s sweeter to animals, the planet, and our health…and it’s already selling out in some stores!” said Erica Meier, Executive Director of Compassion Over Killing. “Starbucks is responding as thousands join Compassion Over Killing and Jane Velez-Mitchell in asking for more vegan foods. By brewing up more nationwide vegan options, Starbucks has the opportunity to put these foods at the fingertips of a soaring consumer market.”

If you don’t live anywhere near South Florida, be sure and let Starbucks know you want to see these delicious creations roll out nationwide!
