Vegan Options at Subway Rolling Out to New Stores in DC, SoCal

Vegan sammies are on the lunch menu. Subway, the world’s largest sandwich chain, is expanding its vegan options in Washington, DC, and Southern California—thanks in large part to the efforts of Compassion Over Killing (COK).

COK has had an ongoing campaign asking consumers to request vegan options (specifically, veggie meats) at the popular chain, and clearly the clamor is working.

According to COK, more than 300 Subways in the Washington, DC are rolling out a special vegan menu including the Malibu Garden and Black Bean sandwiches. Plus, the chain is expanding their vegan test menu to over 100 spots in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Back in 2012, Subway tested new sandwich varieties in parts of Washington, DC. Then last year they started testing vegan subs in the LA-area and re-introduced them in parts of DC, but none have rolled out nationally—yet!

If you’re not in those areas, don’t lose hope. COK has a specific website to encourage people to ask for vegan options at Subway in their areas: WeLoveSubway.com. The more people who ask for vegan meats, the more likely they are to comply, so get to commenting.
