Viana Veggie Snack Sausages Are Like Vegan Slim Jims
For lots of former meat eaters, road trip food isn’t the same without Slim Jims. Sausage snacks are an on-the-go American tradition — but this is 2016 — who wants to eat cancer-causing processed meats?
Now, there’s another option: Viana’s veggie snack sausage. The product (which comes in mild jumbo and picknicker varieties) is 100% vegan, and offers up that spicy, meaty taste herbivores might miss.
Made with organic tofu and ingredients like organic wheat protein, organic sunflower oil, and organic herbs, the vegan Slim Jims are 130 calories each.
Germany’s Tofutown is the parent company to Viana; they also own Soyatoo, which makes Soy Whip and Rice Whip. The snack sausages started hitting stores in the U.S. in 2014.
“In retail stores, we have them in one distributor that serves primarily the Mid-Atlantic region, so stores from Washington, DC, to Boston can get them,” says Jon Kessler of Tofutown. “Otherwise, we ship direct to primarily vegan/vegetarian oriented stores such as Nooch in Denver, Follow Your Heart in LA, Animal Places Vegan Republic in Berkeley, and Vegan Haven in Seattle.”
The company also stocks online retailers like VeganEssentials.com or Pangea, veganstore.com — so you can snag ’em no matter where you live in the country.
