Couple Debuts International Plant-Based Travel Show

17314_850165795067188_8870738481319942968_nIf you watch a lot of the Travel Channel (or any other wanderlust-inspired programming), it may seem like traveling while vegan isn’t a viable option. Despite appearances, however, it’s becoming easier all the time (although mainstream media has been slow to catch up to this reality).

It’s this alternative perspective that Dana Roberts and Lou Gemunden are looking to showcase via Plant Based Traveler, a new show that debuted online last month.

“We hope that ‘Plant Based Traveler’ inspires people to not only question the way that they currently travel, but also change how they engage with the world every day of the week,” Roberts tells Latest Vegan News.

The couple left their respective jobs (Gemunden in television production, Roberts in tech) and moved to Berlin to create the show. The first episode was shot in Cusco, Peru, with a focus on Happy Cow’s highest rated restaurant: Green Point. Gemunden’s background is obvious in the show’s professionally produced appearance.

Many other locations are planned for future installments.

“We are really excited to make more ‘Plant Based Traveler’ content in other cities!” Roberts says. “Right now we are in the midst of editing footage we shot in New York City and Lima, so those will be the next two cities we feature. After that we really want to highlight the amazing things that are happening here in Berlin.”

Roberts says being on the road has taught her that it isn’t that hard to find quality vegan cuisine, despite popular misconception.

“Sometimes you luck out, like I did in Cusco, and there happens to be one of the best vegan restaurants in the world–Green Point, but if there aren’t vegan-friendly restaurants my main advice to vegan travelers is to try stay in a place that gives you access to a kitchen,” she explains. “This way if you can’t find restaurants that have vegan friendly options, you can always make a delicious meal on your own.”

Or, you can just live vicariously through Plant Based Traveler’s impressive adventures.

New episodes of the show will be posted on PlantBasedTraveler.com, and the first episode is available to view now.
