Follow Your Heart Releasing Vegan Egg Substitute You Can Scramble
The “incredible edible egg” really isn’t so incredible after all — as most plant-based eaters are well aware. But that knowledge doesn’t stop a lot of vegans from missing their favorite breakfast food.
Luckily, companies are catching up. Later this month, Follow Your Heart is rolling out its VeganEgg, an entirely eggless product that can be used in scrambles, quiches, frittatas, and as an egg replacer in baked goods.
“VeganEgg actually tastes like real eggs,” a Follow Your Heart spokesperson tells Latest Vegan News. “By incorporating black salt instead of artificial flavors, we were able to achieve the authentic sulfur-like aroma and taste naturally found in eggs. That taste along with the realistic texture when cooked, provides the familiar experience of real eggs.”
The company says it’s been working on the vegan egg substitute for over a decade — a time period that proves it’s pretty challenging to replicate an egg’s taste and functionality. They finally perfected it, and the product is rolling out on Amazon.com in late October.
“Our development team searched relentlessly for a unique and natural blend of ingredients that would function and taste like real eggs,” the company rep says. “When we discovered whole algal flour and whole algal protein, both derived from natural microalgae, we knew that we wanted to use these highly-sustainable and nutritionally rich ingredients to help us make better plant-based foods. They not only contribute to the realistic taste and texture of VeganEgg, they are made from nutrient-dense microalgae that contain all essential amino acids and are a great source of dietary fiber.”
According to the company, whole algal flour and protein also contain high levels of lipids, carbohydrates and micronutrients.
So where and when can you get the VeganEgg? “Production has begun and we expect to start selling online in early November. Distribution to stores across the U.S. is also in the works, so VeganEgg will likely be available in next few months.”
(VeganEgg will initially be available online through Amazon.com for $6.99 – $7.99, and each 4 oz. package will produce the equivalent of a dozen eggs. The shelf life is six months from date of manufacture.)

Is this in powder form? Can you elaborate a bit more on that?
I am expecting you to post a chart, which compare nutrition value of regular egg and Vegan egg.
Since the regular egg has almost no nutritional value, unless you think fat and cholesterol are nutrients. I think a chart would be pointless. However if you want to compare I am sure that the nutritional values for both are available online.

I actually saw this in the Whole Foods in Clearwater, FL. Almost got them but didn’t want to spend the money. I thought it was only the equivalent of 4 not 12
The carton is shaped like it holds four eggs but inside the carton is a bag of powder.
